Noisy Cats: CATCH-22 vol.4 with a bonus track

Remixed for the occasion by Matt The Cat – digital mp3 download only!

That Ain’t Nothin’ But Right (Shell-Price)
original performer: Mac Curtis 1956
A great track by old Mac! This is a tribute both to Mac himself and Kyösti Mäkinen, the legendary fan of Mr. Curtis and editor of Too Much Noise magazine in the 80’s and 90’s. They have met on several occasions, including one with Bob Cat as well. This is also a reminder of how similar a song could sound to another one. Stray Cats’ song When Nothing’s Going Right (written by Lee Rocker of the cats) has too many similarities not to unmention.
I Cannot Help (Matt The Cat)

original performer: Noisy Cats 1996

Noisy Cats cover themselves here. One of Bob’s favorites in Matt’s rockabilly songs. The original (still unreleased as of now) version isn’t that bad either, but this one takes the song on to a new level.

That Don’t Move Me (Carl Perkins)
original performer: Carl Perkins 1956

It was hard to find a good song by Carl Perkins that hasn’t already been covered by so many. This song, unreleased in the 50’s, is pure energy. The arrangement was targeted to contain echoes of the later Perkins era.

You Can Bet Your Bottom Dollar (Jack Scott)
original performer: Jack Scott 1957

Bob Cat’s favorite, a very hillbilly-friendly song by one of the mostest rockabilly cats. Again, Jack Scott had so much stuff that were covered by too many. This is not one of them.

BONUS TRACK: The Stroll (Nancy Lee-Clyde Otis)

original performer: The Diamonds 1957

Although covered by many, like Chubby Checker and Brenda Lee, the reason for a Noisy Cats cut was Charley Pride, one of the most successful country singers in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. He did a demo session for Sun records in 1958 and performed this song. It wasn’t his own, though the name There’s My Baby (Walkin’ The Stroll) differs somewhat from the original. Matt’s background choir is something else!

Background

This is a digital rockabilly / rock’n’roll release from the Finnish brothers Bob Cat and Matt The Cat. The group has been around since 1989 and still going strong. Bob Cat created the cover, using Stray Cats’ and Polecats’ first album covers as a tribute guideline.

Noisy Cats consists of Esa and Marko singing and playing everything you can (and cannot) hear on this set.  However, the origin of their inspiration dates back to the sound of the 1950’s.

So far Bob and Matt, aka Esa Wirta and Marko Virta, have recorded mostly original material with some significant exceptions to the rule. Also, you can hear them sing and play for example on Spotify and other streaming services.
