Noisy Cats: Life Of Brian with a bonus track

Remixed for the occasion by Matt The Cat – digital mp3 download only!

Life Of Brian (Bob Cat-Matt The Cat)
original performer: Noisy Cats 2023
This is our tribute to Mr. Setzer, the chairman of Stray Cats. We are all hoping for Brian’s quick recovery, because there would be a lot of new rockabilly to follow!
Take And Give (Slim Rhodes)

original performer: Slim Rhodes 1956

Rarely has a song carried emotion like this one. Ballad-type country song, yet with some rockabilly vibe to it. Bob’s favorites (plays the steel guitar here as well).

That’s The Way I Feel (Smith-Hyde)
original performer: Johnny Pritchett 1958

According to online sources, this was recorded in the Sun studios with Billy Lee Riley on guitar. This is a sure fire rocker, also covered by Johnny Burnette (stayed unreleased decades after). Good guitar picking here! Matt is busy with the lyrics.

The Life You Offered Me (James Marcus Smith)
original performer: Leroy Van Dyke 1962

Another nice one from Jimmy Smith, also known as Jett Powers and P.J. Proby. Jim’s demo was released not until the 1980’s, showcasing his both singing and writing talent. Van Dyke version is also doing justice to the creation.

BONUS TRACK: Peg O’ My Heart (Fred Fisher-Alfred Bryan) [fast version]

original performer: Irving Kaufman 1912 (included in the musical Ziegfeld Follies 1913)

This old song is still not rock’n’roll albeit faster. The melody swings nicely, while Bob Cat’s playing his own close-to-jazz way with his Gretsch guitar. Matt’s playing stand-up bass, rhythm guitars and drums. Business as usual.

Background

This is a digital rockabilly / rock’n’roll release from the Finnish brothers Bob Cat and Matt The Cat. The group has been around since 1989 and still going strong. Bob Cat created the cover, having Monty Python’s Life Of Brian as motif.

Noisy Cats consists of Esa and Marko singing and playing everything you can (and cannot) hear on this set.  However, the origin of their inspiration dates back to the sound of the 1950’s.

So far Bob and Matt, aka Esa Wirta and Marko Virta, have recorded mostly original material with some significant exceptions to the rule. Also, you can hear them sing and play for example on Spotify and other streaming services.
