Noisy Cats: Stich ’em Up with a bonus track

Original release of 2021 now remixed (except *) for the occasion by Matt The Cat – digital mp3 download only!

Dance On My Own (Bob Cat-Matt The Cat)
This song was written during the covid-19 era, hence dancing on his own. All great guitar solos are played by Matt in true Grady Martin style.
Till The Cows Come Home (Matt The Cat)
Matt found an old demo of his, which inspired recording this song with Noisy Cats. There is some reference to Blasters and Fabulous Thunderbirds here.

Dried Tears* (Bob Cat)
This Bob’s song didn’t meet the requirements Matt had set for a Noisy Cats song, until they changed the approach. Now, being a tex-mex and Buddy Holly related pop song, it was approved.

Come On Little Mama (Matt The Cat)
The second purely Matt’s song owes a little to the Johnny Burnette version of Train Kept a-Rollin’, but that’s only a good thing, right? Being the most rockabilly track on this EP, it really rocks the socks off! Bob’s furious guitar and saxophone breaks add some rocking texture even more.

BONUS TRACK: Vacation’s Over (Lou Josie)

original performer: Lou Josie 1958 (unreleased at the time)

This song has a history unparalleled. Way back in the early 1980’s, a long before there was Noisy Cats, Esa and Marko (there were no Cat-aliases either) heard this song on the radio. Yes, those days you could hear golden stuff almost every day. They didn’t know the name nor performer back then. Years later Esa contacted his brother-in-rockabilly, Kyösti Mäkinen, and sang it to him. Also Pasi Koskela, another godfather of Finnish rockabilly, was there, witnessing the incident as Kyösti grabbed an LP after a quick search and played it to Esa. That was the song! Vacation’s Over by Lou Josie, which didn’t make the cut in 1958. Many editors wonder why it was left out, because it was the best track of the session. But it’s pretty obvious, when you listen to it carefully. The session men didn’t really know the song and thus made some mistakes towards the end of the song.

After getting the song on tape, it didn’t take too long a time for the brothers to record a version of their own. This was around 1987, two years before there was Noisy Cats. However, the version on this EP was recorded for the Catch-22 sessions, but was (again) unreleased at the time…

Background

This is a digital rockabilly / rock’n’roll release from the Finnish brothers Bob Cat and Matt The Cat. The group has been around since 1989 and still going strong. Bob Cat created the cover, thinking of Shakin’ Pyramids’ magnificent LP Skin ’em Up.

Noisy Cats consists of Esa and Marko singing and playing everything you can (and cannot) hear on this set.  However, the origin of their inspiration dates back to the sound of the 1950’s.

So far Bob and Matt, aka Esa Wirta and Marko Virta, have recorded mostly original material with some significant exceptions to the rule. Also, you can hear them sing and play for example on Spotify and other streaming services.
